About Canine Universe & how the numbers are built
What this is
An independent reference for Canadian dog owners: what procedures cost by city, whether insurance pays off, and which foods have been recalled. No clinic sponsorships. Revenue comes from referral fees when readers buy insurance through our links, disclosed on every page, and it never affects the numbers.
Methodology
- Baseline ranges for 24 procedures come from published Canadian sources: provincial veterinary association fee guides where public, published clinic price lists, consumer surveys and reporting (list below).
- City multipliers adjust the national range for local cost of living and clinic overhead: Toronto and Vancouver about +15%, Prairie and Atlantic cities about โ10% to โ13%.
- Real bills submitted by owners override the estimate on any city-procedure page once three or more invoices exist. Outliers beyond 3ร the range are held for review.
- Recalls are pulled daily from the FDA enforcement database and the Government of Canada recalls site.

Limits
Ranges are estimates for information only. Your clinic's written estimate is the number that matters. Nothing here is veterinary or financial advice.
